As you may know, gastroenterology is the specialty of medicine that covers the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of problems affecting your digestive system or “GI” tract. Gastroenterology deals with diseases affecting the esophagus, stomach, pancreas, small and large intestines, liver, gallbladder, and rectum. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has graduated from medical school, received three years additional training in internal medicine, and completed at least another two years specialty training in gastroenterology.
